12 October 2011: IMPORTANT: the information on this page has been updated for Summer 2011/2012
There are changes about the payment method, and updated information on parking, and transport.
Camping:
Many years ago, it was the tradition to camp onsite at the back of the tavern. However, this is no longer possible. Now we do have parking and camping on the farmers field across the road for the night of the event. For longer stays, camping sites are available in the area. Check our Camping Info web page, in the "About Us" area. Buses will do pick-ups and drop-offs to the local camping sites.
Parking:
Parking is not available on the Tavern premises. Summer events, you can park across the road on the farmers field.
The camping/parking is not run by the Coroglen Tavern and we are not responsible for their prices and policies.
You can park, and stay overnight, and can set up a tent for the night. Porta Loos will be available. There will also be a skip for your rubbish, please tidy your parking area when you leave. The parking site will be patrolled by a security team.
Please car pool with friends, but preferably, make use of our bus services. Parking is a problem here. When parking on country roads, please do not block driveways or farm access. Park as far off the road as you can. You must ensure that two lanes of traffic can pass between your vehicle and the one parked on the other side of the road. This means that you will be unable to park on most of the roads around the Tavern - they are too narrow.
Be careful when walking to the tavern, especially when crossing the one-lane bridge. Actually, the rule is that you CAN NOT park on the other side of the one-way bridge - it is too dangerous crossing the bridge on a busy band night. The police are very concerned about road safety in the vicinity of the Tavern. The best solution is to make use of the parking that is provided across the road.
You can also park in Whitianga, Cooks Beach, or Hahei and get a bus.
NEW: our local council has implemented a new by-law against "wild camping". This means that if you camp overnight on the side of the road, or on a public reserve, you will be fined $40. If you have parked on the side of the road to attend our event, you MUST return to your vehicle and drive away. You can not sleep in your car on the side of the road. We strongly suggest that you use the farm parking, or Riverglen, or travel from the local communities.
Litter:
You will be parking on a country road, in a very green natural environment. Please be friendly to our environment. When you leave, please take your rubbish with you, and deposit it in a suitable refuse container in a town or at your home.
Transportation Info
For all events buses will be organised by Go Kiwi (based in Whitianga). They will have buses running to / from Whitianga, Cooks Beach, Hahei, Coromandel Town, and Tairua. They will also pick-up from the Sea Breeze Cabins, and Hot Water Beach Holiday Park.
For all events, the Tavern's courtesy buses will be running to River Glen Camping.
Contact Go Kiwi for more details, and to book. (07 866 0336)
R18
Minimum age for this event is 18. (If you look under 20, please bring IDs)
Previously, we allowed persons under 18 years of age to be present if accompanied by their parents or a legal guardian. But, due to abuse of this, we now strictly enforce the R18 rule.
Coroglen Tavern Venue Info:
Two-thirds of the arena area is covered.
Please note that footwear is compulsory. We don't care what it is, but please, no bare feet or jandals. There will be glass on the ground.
Entry WILL be refused if you do not have suitable footwear.
Q. What am I not allowed to bring into the Tavern?
A. You are entering licensed premises, so you can not bring your own drink or food onto the premises. Photography is prohibited so do not bring your camera. Audio recordings are also not permitted. And please, no umbrellas. We have no provision to check them in so you will need to get rid of these items or take them back to your car.
If you purchased your tickets on-line (from Ticketek, TicketMaster, or Nikau Rhythm), with the option to collect them "from the venue", please realise that you will collect your tickets from the promoter, NOT from the Tavern. Expect to be in a slow moving queue !!!
Check the back of your ticket for restricted items and conditions.
The Security Team will ask to check your bags as you enter. Any prohibited items will be removed, or you can return them to your car.
Note: there are no pass-outs. If you choose to leave the venue, you will not be able to return.
Alcohol:
The Coroglen Tavern Band Nights are held on Licensed Premises, so all the standard rules apply, as with any pub or tavern. You can't bring your own alcohol onto the premises, and any drinks that you purchase on site can't be taken with you when you leave. (We do have an Off Licence, on normal nights it closes at 11pm. On Band Nights we do NOT operate our Off Licence.)
Intoxicated people will be denied entry to the premises and also onto the courtesy vans and buses bringing you to the premises. Should anyone become intoxicated during the evening, then the bar staff will not be allowed to serve you alcoholic drinks.
Payment method. - Coroglen Cards
On Band Nights, our Bars and Kitchen DO NOT accept cash, or EFTPOS.
Coro Bucks are no longer used (Coro Bucks were plastic token strips and we have used them in previous years)
Our new payment method is based on the AWOP Cards used at Rhythm and Vines and other major festivals. So lets call them Coroglen Cards.
Only Coroglen Cards can be used to purchase drink, food, tobacco, etc.
Coroglen Cards can be purchased in advance from the Tavern Bar, or from the Coroglen Cards sales point in the Beer Garden during the Band Night.
Coroglen Cards can be purchased with cash, EFTPOS, Visa, and MasterCard. No cheques accepted.
There is a small charge of $3 to purchase the card, and a $2 Bond which is returned if your card is in good condition. And then you load it with any amount that you require. You can also top it up if you run out.
The Coroglen Cards can be used on any of the Coroglen Band Nights, and also at the Tavern during normal business.
You can get a refund on the remaining value of your card at the end of the night, or anytime after the Band Night. Or you keep the card to use the next time you are here.
You will not be able to use other AWOP Cards at our venue only the Coroglen Cards issued here. Rhythm and Vines cards, etc, will not work here.
You purchase a Coroglen Card for $5. That includes a Bond of $2. When you return your Coroglen Card for refund, you will receive your Bond back, unless your Card has been damaged such that we are unable to reuse it. If your card has been totally damaged, such that it can no longer be read, we will be unable to refund you the balance. (This would be very unusual !! ). That excepted, you will always receive the full balance on your card when you refund it. If your card has been blocked by the system due to improper use, your refund will be delayed. (Again, that would be very unusual !!). Treat your Card with care, and think of it as a pile of cash - you loose your cash, and its gone, the same with your card - loose it and you have lost your money.
TIP: make a note of the serial number on your card. That might help you to get it back if it is lost and then found.

Safety:
Don't presume that the laws of the real world don't apply to the Band Night. Anyone caught holding or dealing illegal substances will be treated the same way as anywhere else.
Excessive use of mind altering substances of any kind including alcohol can result in the night changing from fantastic to a nightmare in a very short amount of time. Don't forget you need to get home after the show & an ambulance isn't the best or cheapest way to do so. Don't be afraid to tell us if something is going wrong, we only want to help you, not judge you.
Crowd surfing, moshing & circle dancing are dangerous activities & will not be tolerated. Offenders will be removed from the site.
Please consider others as well as your own safety, especially in front of the stage. If someone falls down or is in distress please help them if you can or let the Security Team know so we can help. It's meant to be a fun night, let's make sure it is.
We do have an ambulance on site for our Band Nights. Speak to one of our security staff if you need medical assistance.
And we really do have to emphasize that you MUST have suitable footwear. There will be glass on the ground, so we will refuse entry to anyone with bare feet or jandals.
Guidelines on Alcohol:
It is important to remember that there are a number of liquor bans on the Coromandel Peninsula (including Coroglen) and consuming alcohol in those areas has consequences.
• Breaching liquor bans can lead to fines of up to $20,000.
• If you are found consuming alcohol in a liquor ban area, the police can confiscate all of the alcohol and search you and your vehicle.
• Anyone under 18 found drinking in a public place can be issued with a Liquor Infringement Notice which carries an instant $200.
• Adults breaching a ban face prosecution.
• Anyone using a fake ID or someone else's ID faces conviction and a $2,000 fine.
If you are going out and will be drinking alcohol:
• Arrange safe transport to and from your location, whether that is a designated sober driver, taxi, bus or dial-a-driver. If you are paying for your transport, make sure that you put the money aside at the start of the evening so that you don't spend it on drink and find yourself stranded.
• If you are going out with a group, stay with that group. Look out for one another.
• For every alcoholic drink you have, have a glass of water or non-alcoholic drink.
• Never lose sight of your drink. Although drink-spiking is rare it can happen. If you lose sight of your drink at any time throw what is left away and get a fresh one.
• Never accept a drink that is handed to you by a stranger.
Note: our Backpackers is fully booked for 28 - 29 December 2011. And also for 2 January 2012 and 28 - 29 January 2012. Other dates may be used for Band Nights in that period (we are awaiting confirmation from our promoter). So for now, we can not accept bookings between 27 December and 3 January.
You can leave a message for us to enquire about accomodation availability.
Myths & Realities: Reality = 18 is just the age at which you can legally purchase. You can legally drink alcohol at any age. ...more
